Military Camo Cargo Trousers 'Yaei'

Camouflage cargo trousers in a sturdy weave, straight-legged, with a turned-up hem

These are the camo trousers that came before the joggers: a straight leg, a button fly, five pockets, a flap cargo pocket on each thigh, and a hem cut long enough to turn up once over the trainer, in a sturdy cloth printed in khaki camouflage of green, tan, brown and black. They are cut like a work trouser, and they weigh like one.

It is the heaviest camo in the collection and the most traditional, and the turn-up is what makes it: it shows the inside of the print at the ankle, which is paler, and it is how the trousers are worn in the photograph.

The name, Yaei, is camping, the thing camouflage trousers were for before they were for the street, and the trousers still would.

The cut is a straight-leg utility trouser with a button fly, a waist that takes a belt, room through the thigh and a plain hem cut to turn. The cloth is a cotton-rich blend with a firm, dry hand and some weight, chosen because a work trouser should feel like one and because camo on a firm cloth holds its edges. The pockets have buttons under the flaps.

Wear them with a plain tee and trainers, as in the photograph, or with a knit and boots in the cold. They go with white, black, grey and any jacket in the range, and they do not need a belt unless you want one.

They wash cold, inside out, and dry on a line; the cloth creases at the knee the way a work trouser should and does not need an iron, which is the point of a trouser cut for a street rather than an office.

From across a street they are camo trousers with a turn-up. From close the print shows its four colours, the flaps their buttons, and the turn-up its paler inside. They are the pair for the person who wants camo with a belt.

The waist has belt loops and takes a belt, which the joggers in the collection do not, and the fly buttons with four buttons. The back pockets sit low with a flap, and the cargo pockets on the thigh are boxed so they stand off the leg.

Sizes run from S to XXL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.
