About this piece

Printed apron with a lucky cat and characters, in sixteen designs and four sizes

A lucky cat on the front of an apron, with a wish beside it. This bib apron is a printed cloth with a large beckoning cat drawn in the manner of a Japanese shop sign, in a kimono, with a fan, a fish, a mallet or a bowl, and brushed characters beside it wishing for fortune, luck or good business, on a navy, cream or white ground, with a neck loop and ties at the waist. It comes in sixteen designs and four sizes, from a small child's to an adult's. The photographs show six designs.

It is the apron of a Japanese restaurant kitchen drawn for a home one, and the child sizes are what make it a set: the same cat on the cook and the helper.

The name is the plain one, and the apron is the Western bib shape with a Japanese front.

The apron is a printed cloth, cut as a bib with a loop for the neck and two long ties at the waist, hemmed all round, with the print on the front only. The four sizes are the same print scaled, so the cat is the same cat on the child and the adult.

Wear it in the kitchen, at a barbecue, in a workshop or a studio, and put the small one on a child who wants to help. The prints are loud on purpose: an apron is the one garment that is allowed to be.

The sixteen designs are sixteen cats: one with a fish, one with a fan, one in a green kimono, one with a bowl of noodles, one in pink, one with a black hat, and the rest in the same family, each with its own characters. The characters are a wish in the manner of the signs outside a shop, and the cat beckons on every one.

From across a room it is a cat on a chest. From close the cat shows its kimono, the characters their brush, and the ties their length. It is the apron for a person who cooks and a child who thinks they do.

Machine wash cool, dry flat or on a line, iron on the reverse. The print is fast.

Four sizes: 38 by 47 cm for a small child, 55 by 68 cm for an older child, 66 by 81 cm for a teenager or a small adult, 70 by 100 cm for an adult. Sixteen designs; the option number picks the design.
