About this piece
Slim track pants with a white side stripe and a zipped ankle, three colours
The stripe down the side of these track pants is white, piped in black, and it runs from the hip to the ankle where a zip opens the cuff over the trainer. The cut is slim, tapered from the thigh, with a drawstring waist and zipped pockets, in a smooth cloth with a little stretch. They come in blue, as in the photograph, in black and in grey.
It is the sportswear pair of the collection and the slimmest, and the zip at the ankle is what makes it: closed, the pant sits on the shoe; open, it flares over it, which is the way it was worn in the clubs the cut comes from.
The name, Hashiri, is running, the thing the pant was drawn for and will never be asked to do.
The cut is a slim track pant with a tapered leg and a zipped ankle, sitting at the waist on a drawstring. The cloth is a smooth polyester blend with a dry face and a little stretch, chosen because a track pant must move and hold a stripe straight, and this one does both. The zips are metal.
Wear them with a white tee and white trainers, as in the photograph, which is the outfit every pair in this collection was photographed in and the one they are all best in. A black tee in the evening, a haori or a sukajan over the top when it turns, and nothing else with a stripe.
They wash cold, inside out, and dry on a line; the cloth does not crease into a map and does not need an iron, which is the point of a trouser cut for a street rather than an office.
From across a street they are dark track pants with a white line. From close the piping shows its black edge, the zips their teeth, and the cloth its smoothness. They are the pair for a white trainer and a long walk.
The pockets zip, which is the track-pant detail that matters on a train, and the waist has a flat elastic under the drawstring, so the pant stays put without the cord being tight. The stripe is sewn on, not printed, and it runs into the ankle zip.
Sizes run from M to XXL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.
Questions about the japanese pants
What kind of trousers are these?
Japanese street trousers: cargos, joggers, wide legs and the tobi and harem cuts of the building site and the temple town, several embroidered with cranes, dragons and clouds. Every page says the cut, and every pair was photographed with a white tee and white trainers, which is how they are worn.
Does it run small?
Yes. Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing. Take one size up from your usual; between two sizes, take the larger. Measurements taken flat are in the size guide.
What is it made of?
Mostly light polyester-cotton blends, with denim for the two denim pairs, a linen-look cotton blend for the embroidered ones, corduroy blends for the patchwork and the workwear pair, and a heat-set pleated polyester for the pleated trousers. Each page says which.
Embroidered or printed?
Each page says. The cranes, the characters and the clouds are embroidered; the dragons and the camouflage are printed; the kimono and dragon panels are printed cloth sewn in.
Is it made in Japan?
No. It is a Japanese design, made in Asia. We say so on every page.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold, inside out, and hang to dry; denim with its own colour the first time. Nothing needs ironing, and the pleated pair must not be.
What we sell, and what we don't
Japanese designs, made in Asia. Cotton, linen or polyester as stated on each piece, never silk. We say so on every page, because the alternative is selling you a word instead of a garment.
