These are not sneakers, and they are the one pair in the footwear range that is not. Black patent platform shoes with a rounded toe, a bow across the vamp, straps crossing at the ankle and fastening with a star-shaped buckle, a small bow at the heel and a chunky block heel on a thick platform. They are the shoe of the Japanese lolita wardrobe, the one worn with a petticoat and a headdress, and with a plain black dress they are simply a good platform shoe.
It is the most dressed piece of footwear in the range and the only one with a heel, and the patent is what makes it: everything on the shoe shines.
The name, Yamiko, is the child of the dark, the name of the black version of every lolita shoe, and this one is that.
The sole is a thick platform with a block heel, both in a firm synthetic, and the upper is a patent synthetic with a padded insole and straps that buckle. It is a platform Mary Jane, and it adds a full hand of height.
Wear them with a white sock pulled up, as in the photograph, which is how every pair in this collection was shot and how they are worn in Tokyo: the sock is part of the shoe. White trousers, black jeans, the cropped pants from the range, and nothing else on the foot that argues.
The straps cross at the ankle and buckle on the outside with the star, so the shoe holds without a lace, and the bows are sewn on, not clipped. The platform under the toe takes some of the height out of the heel, so the pitch is walkable.
The last is a Japanese one, wider at the toe box than a European sneaker and lower at the instep, which is part of why they run small: the length is short and the width is generous. A wide foot will be comfortable; a narrow one will want the thicker sock.
Wipe them with a damp cloth; do not machine wash. A soft brush for the mesh, a cloth for the panels, and they are ready for the next day.
From across a street they are black platform shoes with a bow. From close the patent shows its shine, the buckle its star, and the bows their edges. They are the shoe for the dress and skirt sets in the range, and for anyone who wants the height.
Sizes run from EU 35 to 39. They are cut to Asian sizing and run small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.
