About this piece
Beige cargo trousers with six zipped pockets down the legs and a drawstring waist
Six pockets down the legs, three a side, each with a zip, plus a flap pocket at the front of the waist and one on the back. These cargo trousers are light beige, cut straight from a soft drawstring waist to a plain hem, and they have more places to put things than any other pair in the collection. The pockets are boxed, so they stand off the leg, and the zips are white.
It is the cargo for someone who takes the word seriously, and the pale colour is what keeps the pockets from looking heavy.
The name, Sunahama, is the sandy beach, the colour of the cloth, and the pockets are for the shells.
The cut is a cargo: a soft waistband with a drawstring, a straight leg with room through the thigh, and the pockets set in a column down the leg. The hem is left plain so it stacks on the shoe or sits above it, as you like. The cloth is a light woven polyester-cotton blend with a dry, matte hand, chosen because a street trouser must take a crease without keeping it, wash without shrinking and weigh nothing on a hot day, and a blend does all three. The zips are plastic, white, and light.
Wear them with a white tee and white trainers, as in the photograph, which is the outfit every pair in this collection was photographed in and the one they are all best in. A black tee in the evening, a haori or a sukajan over the top when it turns, and nothing else with a pattern below the waist.
They wash cold, inside out, and dry on a line; the cloth does not crease into a map and does not need an iron, which is the point of a trouser cut for a street rather than an office.
From across a street they are beige trousers with boxes on them. From close the pockets show their zips and their box seams, the waist its cord, and the back its flap. They are the pair for the person who has never had enough pockets.
The pockets down the legs are boxed, sewn as a separate box onto the leg, so they hold a shape empty and open flat when full; each zips across the top. The front flap pocket at the waist is the seventh, and the back flap the eighth.
Sizes run from M to XL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.
Questions about the japanese pants
What kind of trousers are these?
Japanese street trousers: cargos, joggers, wide legs and the tobi and harem cuts of the building site and the temple town, several embroidered with cranes, dragons and clouds. Every page says the cut, and every pair was photographed with a white tee and white trainers, which is how they are worn.
Does it run small?
Yes. Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing. Take one size up from your usual; between two sizes, take the larger. Measurements taken flat are in the size guide.
What is it made of?
Mostly light polyester-cotton blends, with denim for the two denim pairs, a linen-look cotton blend for the embroidered ones, corduroy blends for the patchwork and the workwear pair, and a heat-set pleated polyester for the pleated trousers. Each page says which.
Embroidered or printed?
Each page says. The cranes, the characters and the clouds are embroidered; the dragons and the camouflage are printed; the kimono and dragon panels are printed cloth sewn in.
Is it made in Japan?
No. It is a Japanese design, made in Asia. We say so on every page.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold, inside out, and hang to dry; denim with its own colour the first time. Nothing needs ironing, and the pleated pair must not be.
What we sell, and what we don't
Japanese designs, made in Asia. Cotton, linen or polyester as stated on each piece, never silk. We say so on every page, because the alternative is selling you a word instead of a garment.
