Kimono Panel Floral Joggers 'Hanaobi'

Cream joggers with a floral kimono-cloth panel down one leg, in four colours

The panel on these joggers is a piece of kimono cloth: a floral in teal, rust, cream and black, peonies and chrysanthemums in the flat outlined style of a printed kimono, sewn down the outside of the right leg from the hip to the ankle and round both hems as a band. The rest is a cream slubbed cloth with a drawstring waist finished in beaded cords and a gathered ankle. It comes in white, as in the photograph, in red, pink and black, and the panel is the same on all four.

It is the pair in the collection with the most colour on the least cloth, and the band at both ankles is what ties the plain leg to the printed one.

The name, Hanaobi, is the flower sash, the panel, and the pants are named for the strip of kimono on them.

The cut is a relaxed jogger with room through the thigh and an ankle that gathers on an elastic over the shoe, sitting at the waist on a drawstring with beaded ends. The cloth is a linen-look cotton blend with a slubbed, dry hand and a little weight, chosen because a print or an embroidery this fine needs a ground with body, and because the slub gives a plain colour somewhere to go. The panel is a printed cloth sewn into the seam and round the hem, not a print on the pant.

Wear them with a white tee and white trainers, as in the photograph, which is the outfit every pair in this collection was photographed in and the one they are all best in. A black tee in the evening, a haori or a sukajan over the top when it turns, and nothing else with a pattern below the waist.

They wash cold, inside out, and dry on a line; the cloth does not crease into a map and does not need an iron, which is the point of a trouser cut for a street rather than an office.

From across a street they are cream pants with a coloured stripe down one leg. From close the stripe is a garden, with every flower outlined, and the beads on the cord show their red. They are the pair for the person who wants a kimono and only has room for a strip of one.

Sizes run from M to 5XL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.
