A dog on a trouser leg, and a band of paws at the hem. These cropped pants are white, with a navy drawstring waist, a cartoon shiba inu printed on the left thigh with its name in hiragana and a few flowers, and a navy zigzag band round each hem with white paw prints on it, stopping above the ankle. They are the happy pair of the collection, and they know it. The listing carries ten print designs; the shiba is the one in the photograph.
It is the cropped pant for a summer festival, and the paw band is the same idea as the band on a happi coat, moved to the leg.
The name, Jukkei, is ten designs, the ten prints the pant comes in, and the name is honest about it.
The cut is a cropped relaxed pant with a drawstring waist, room through the thigh and a hem that stops above the ankle bone, over the sock. The cloth is a light cotton blend with a dry, slightly slubbed hand, chosen because a print this bright needs a pale ground and a summer pant should breathe. The print is printed, and the band is a separate cloth sewn on.
Wear them with a white tee and white trainers, as in the photograph, which is the outfit every pair in this collection was photographed in and the one they are all best in. A black tee in the evening, a haori or a sukajan over the top when it turns, and nothing else with a pattern below the waist.
They wash cold, inside out, with the whites, and hang; the navy band does not run.
From across a street they are white pants with a navy edge and a dog. From close the dog has its cheeks, the hiragana its strokes, and the paws their pads. They are the pair for someone with a shiba, or for someone who wishes they had.
The waist is a navy elastic band with a navy drawstring, so the top of the pant is edged the same as the hem, and the pockets are set in the side seams. The crop stops a hand above the ankle bone on most heights, over a white sock.
Sizes run from XXS to 4XL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.

What kind of trousers are these?
Japanese street trousers: cargos, joggers, wide legs and the tobi and harem cuts of the building site and the temple town, several embroidered with cranes, dragons and clouds. Every page says the cut, and every pair was photographed with a white tee and white trainers, which is how they are worn.
Does it run small?
Yes. Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing. Take one size up from your usual; between two sizes, take the larger. Measurements taken flat are in the size guide.
What is it made of?
Mostly light polyester-cotton blends, with denim for the two denim pairs, a linen-look cotton blend for the embroidered ones, corduroy blends for the patchwork and the workwear pair, and a heat-set pleated polyester for the pleated trousers. Each page says which.
Embroidered or printed?
Each page says. The cranes, the characters and the clouds are embroidered; the dragons and the camouflage are printed; the kimono and dragon panels are printed cloth sewn in.
Is it made in Japan?
No. It is a Japanese design, made in Asia. We say so on every page.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold, inside out, and hang to dry; denim with its own colour the first time. Nothing needs ironing, and the pleated pair must not be.
