Fabric & care
The composition is stated in the description and printed on the inner label. Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colours. Hang to dry. Iron on low, inside out over prints or embroidery.

About this piece
Corduroy trousers patched in green, red, purple, black and gold, badge on the back
Five colours of corduroy, cut into blocks and sewn back together. These trousers are pieced from green, red, purple, black and mustard cord in panels that change at the knee, at the thigh and at the seat, with patch pockets in a contrasting colour on each leg and on the back, a small red patch on the front and a woven badge on the right back pocket. A drawstring waist, a hem to turn up, and no two panels the same.
It is the loudest pair in the collection and the warmest, and the corduroy is what keeps it from being a clown: the rib gives every block a texture, and the colours are the colours of a good rug.
The name, Tsugiki, is grafting, the joining of one plant to another, and the trousers are grafted from five.
The cut is a relaxed straight leg with a drawstring waist, room through the thigh and a plain hem cut to turn. The cloth is a soft-ribbed corduroy blend with a brushed hand, chosen because cord takes colour deeply and holds a patch seam flat, and because a patchwork trouser should be soft. The pockets are sewn on, not printed.
Wear them with a plain tee and trainers, as in the photograph, or with a knit and boots in the cold. They go with white, with black, and with nothing else that has a colour, and they do not need a belt unless you want one.
They wash cold, inside out, and dry flat; the cord keeps its rib and the colours stay where they were sewn.
From across a street they are colour blocks with legs. From close the cord shows its rib in every block, the seams their stitching, the badge its weave, and the patches their edges. They are the pair for the person who has been waiting for permission, and this is it.
The waist is a flat elastic under the drawstring with the cords ending in red tips, and the pockets on the legs are patch pockets in a contrasting block, so a hand goes into one colour and comes out of another. The back badge is woven and the front patch is red felt.
Sizes run from M to XXL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.

What kind of trousers are these?
Japanese street trousers: cargos, joggers, wide legs and the tobi and harem cuts of the building site and the temple town, several embroidered with cranes, dragons and clouds. Every page says the cut, and every pair was photographed with a white tee and white trainers, which is how they are worn.
Does it run small?
Yes. Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing. Take one size up from your usual; between two sizes, take the larger. Measurements taken flat are in the size guide.
What is it made of?
Mostly light polyester-cotton blends, with denim for the two denim pairs, a linen-look cotton blend for the embroidered ones, corduroy blends for the patchwork and the workwear pair, and a heat-set pleated polyester for the pleated trousers. Each page says which.
Embroidered or printed?
Each page says. The cranes, the characters and the clouds are embroidered; the dragons and the camouflage are printed; the kimono and dragon panels are printed cloth sewn in.
Is it made in Japan?
No. It is a Japanese design, made in Asia. We say so on every page.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold, inside out, and hang to dry; denim with its own colour the first time. Nothing needs ironing, and the pleated pair must not be.
