About this piece
White techwear cargo joggers with grey panels, straps and reflective trim, ribbed at the ankle
Techwear in white is rare, because white shows the city, and these joggers are the argument for it. White body, grey panels down the outside of each leg, a flap cargo pocket on each thigh with a strap hanging from it, a small lettering print running up the right ankle, reflective trim, and a ribbed cuff. The pockets are boxed and the straps are long enough to swing.
It is the techwear pair of the collection for the daytime, and the grey panels are what keep the white from being a blank.
The name, Hakugin, is white silver, the colour of the reflective trim when a light hits it, and the trousers are that colour for a second.
The cut is a jogger: a soft waistband with a drawstring, room through the thigh, a taper to the knee and a ribbed cuff at the ankle that sits on the trainer. It is the shape Tokyo wears to the convenience store and to the club, and it does both. The cloth is a light polyester blend with a crisp, dry hand, chosen because techwear needs a cloth that holds a pocket square and shrugs off a shower, and because white in it stays white through washing. The trim is reflective tape, sewn on.
Wear them with a white tee and white trainers, as in the photograph, which is the outfit every pair in this collection was photographed in and the one they are all best in. A black tee in the evening, a haori or a sukajan over the top when it turns, and nothing else with a pattern below the waist.
They wash cold, inside out, with the whites, and hang; the grey panels do not run.
From across a street they are white joggers with grey sides. From close the straps show their length, the lettering its letters, the trim its grey, and the cuff its rib. They are the pair for a white trainer that is going to stay white.
The lettering at the ankle is small, printed in black, and it is the mark of the design rather than a brand you would know. The straps clip at the pocket and hang free, and the grey panels are a separate cloth sewn in, so the seams show.
Sizes run from S to 3XL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.
Questions about the japanese pants
What kind of trousers are these?
Japanese street trousers: cargos, joggers, wide legs and the tobi and harem cuts of the building site and the temple town, several embroidered with cranes, dragons and clouds. Every page says the cut, and every pair was photographed with a white tee and white trainers, which is how they are worn.
Does it run small?
Yes. Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing. Take one size up from your usual; between two sizes, take the larger. Measurements taken flat are in the size guide.
What is it made of?
Mostly light polyester-cotton blends, with denim for the two denim pairs, a linen-look cotton blend for the embroidered ones, corduroy blends for the patchwork and the workwear pair, and a heat-set pleated polyester for the pleated trousers. Each page says which.
Embroidered or printed?
Each page says. The cranes, the characters and the clouds are embroidered; the dragons and the camouflage are printed; the kimono and dragon panels are printed cloth sewn in.
Is it made in Japan?
No. It is a Japanese design, made in Asia. We say so on every page.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold, inside out, and hang to dry; denim with its own colour the first time. Nothing needs ironing, and the pleated pair must not be.
What we sell, and what we don't
