About this piece
Black faux-leather shorts with silver studs along the hem and the pockets
Not denim. These shorts are cut from a smooth black synthetic with the surface of leather, neat and straight to the knee, with patch pockets at the front, welt pockets at the back, and a row of silver studs running along the hem of each leg and at the corners of the pockets. They are the one pair in the collection that shines.
It is the short for the evening, the one that goes with a black tee and a bomber, and the studs are what keep it from being a pair of trousers with the legs cut off.
The name, Byo, is the stud, the rivet, and the shorts are named for the row of them.
The cloth is a smooth synthetic leather with a slight gloss and a light lining, chosen because a leather-look short must move and wipe clean, and this one does both. The cut is a neat knee-length short with a zip fly and a waist that takes a belt.
Wear them with a white tee and white trainers, as in the photograph, which is the outfit every pair in this collection was photographed in and the one they are all best in. A black tee in the evening, a camp shirt open over the top, and nothing else with a pattern.
The synthetic has a light lining, so it does not stick in the heat, and the studs are set through the cloth with a backing, so they do not pull. The cut is neat rather than baggy, sitting at the waist and falling straight.
Wipe them with a damp cloth; do not machine wash, and do not tumble. The surface keeps its gloss if it is kept out of the sun in a drawer.
From across a street they are black shorts with a shine. From close the surface shows its grain, the studs their silver, and the pockets their edges. They are the pair for a night, and for the person who does not own a denim short.
The front pockets are patch pockets, sewn on with a stud at each top corner, and the back pockets are welts with a stud at each end, so the studs on the hem have company. It is cut neat, and it is the one pair in the collection that could go with a shirt.
Sizes run from M to XL. It is cut to Asian sizing and runs small, so take one size up from your usual. Between two sizes, take the larger.
Questions about the japanese shorts
What kind of shorts are these?
Denim shorts in the Japanese street style, knee-length and relaxed: washed, frayed, pieced, patched, embroidered or printed, with one pair in leather-look synthetic and one long cargo short in a woven cloth. Every page says which, and every pair was photographed with a white tee and white trainers.
Does it run small?
Yes. Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing. Take one size up from your usual; between two sizes, take the larger. Measurements taken flat are in the size guide.
What is it made of?
Cotton denim for the denim shorts, raw or washed as the page says; a synthetic leather for the studded pair; a polyester-cotton blend for the cargo short.
Will the fraying continue?
A little, then it stops at the stitching. Raw hems are cut and washed once before they reach you, so the fray has started and settled.
Is it made in Japan?
No. It is a Japanese design, made in Asia. We say so on every page.
How do I wash it?
Cold, inside out, with their own colour the first time, and hang to dry. Rhinestones go in a wash bag; the leather-look pair is wiped, not washed.
What we sell, and what we don't
Japanese designs, made in Asia. Cotton, linen or polyester as stated on each piece, never silk. We say so on every page, because the alternative is selling you a word instead of a garment.
