About this piece
Wrathful deity ring, a fierce face crowned with skulls, with red eyes
The face is meant to frighten, and it is on your side. This ring is the head of a wrathful deity, the fierce guardians who stand at the gates of the esoteric temples with their teeth bared, a crown of small skulls across the top, the brow furrowed and the eyes and brow lined in red, with earrings at either side and a third eye on the forehead. The recesses are darkened, and the red is the only colour on it.
It is the ring in the collection with the most expression and the one with colour, and the red is what you see first.
The name, Myoo, is the wisdom king, the class of fierce deities the face belongs to, and the ring is one of them.
The ring is stainless steel, cast as one piece about 24 mm high, the recesses darkened and the red applied in the eye sockets and the brow. The skulls form a crown that wraps the top of the finger.
Wear it on the index or middle finger of either hand, and on its own. It goes with the black clothes in the range, and it is a ring for someone who understands that the fierce ones are the protectors.
The crown of skulls is the detail: seven small skulls in a row across the top, each with its own eye sockets, and they are what makes the face a deity rather than a demon. The third eye on the brow is the other tell.
From across a table it is a silver face with red eyes. From close the skulls show their row, the teeth their points, and the red its edges. It is the ring for someone who wants a guardian and wants it fierce.
Steel does not tarnish, does not turn a finger green and does not mind water, so this ring can be worn in the shower and the sea and wiped dry after. A soft cloth is all the care it needs; the darkened recesses and the red are finishes, and the red will soften with years of wear.
Sizes are given as the inside circumference in millimetres: 55, 56, 59, 62, 65, 68, 70. Wrap a strip of paper round the finger where the ring will sit, mark where it meets, and measure the strip flat. If you are between two sizes and the ring is wide, take the larger; a wide band needs more room than a thin one.
Questions about the japanese rings
What is a Japanese ring?
A ring built on Japanese imagery: dragons, koi, guardian lions, temple deities, sutras and Sanskrit seed syllables, helmets and masks. Most are sculpted in the round rather than set with stones.
How do I find my size?
Sizes are the inside circumference in millimetres. Wrap a strip of paper round the finger, mark where it meets and measure it flat. For a wide band, take the larger of two sizes. Open bands are one size and adjust by hand.
Are they silver or steel?
Both, and each page says which. The silver rings are sterling silver stamped 925 inside the band; the steel rings are stainless steel, some with a black or gold-toned finish. Neither turns a finger green.
Are they made in Japan?
No. They are a Japanese design, made in Asia. We say so on every page.
Will the dark finish wear off?
The darkening in the recesses is deliberate and stays; the high points polish with wear, which is how the relief is meant to read. Gold-toned and black coatings soften over years of daily wear.
How do I care for them?
Wipe with a soft cloth. Silver darkens with time and a silver cloth brings it back; take silver off for the sea and the shower. Steel can be worn in water and dried after.
What we sell, and what we don't
